Jane may not be as overtly Christian as Helen Burns, but she has a strong sense of morality. She is concerned about character. She comments also on Mr. Rochester's warning, "Beware remorse." Let's keep an eye on Jane's inner struggle with conscience, and I'd like to hear from all of you about the values that she considers important.
Jane's inner struggle with her conscience has brought her down to a low self-esteem. Mr. Rochester's warning of "Beware remorse" comment gave Jane a better understanding of what she considers important, instead of being sad all the time. Jane considers personality and actions to be of value to her because she is put down constantly by her looks.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Jane is not a Strong Christian such as Helen, but she is in deep of character. Mr. Rochester quote, "Beware remorse" really changed Jane by knocking her back to her regular track. As what Cierra said in the comment above, "Jane considers personality and actions to be of value to her because she is put down constantly by her looks." This shows Jane cares about character not looks.
