St. John Rivers' Calling

The proposal may be a surprise, but the impulse is good, right? Or is it? Do you think that the missionary zeal that St. John shows gives a positive view of Christianity? Is he an admirable character, a positive religious model?

  1. I believe that the impulse on asking Jane to marry him was a good calling to her; an open opportunity. When they first meet, he seems kind enough to her because he decides to house her for a little while. To Jane, she is somewhat surprised when he proposes to her because she is still thinking of Mr. Rochester, and she isn't showing much interest in St. John. His interest in his religious beliefs is quite admirable because he is very much into showing people that there is something to believe in.

  2. Well I was pretty surprised when I read this because I thought St. John was in love with Rosamond. Like what I said in my previous blog, I stated that St. John declares that he loves Rosamond, but she wouldn't be a great missionary wife. As what Cierra commented, Jane is somewhat surprised when St. John proposed to her because she still thinks about Mr, Rochester. Well I have to say that St. John is an admirable character because of Cierra's reason, he is very much into showing people that there is something to believe in.
